Summary

Session 4

The party returned to the Dawnwood to figure out what was going on with the creature that called itself ‘Greg’, and to investigate the old stone temple carved into the foot of the mountain.

On the outskirts of the wood they found a note at the Marchguard camp, an invitation to join their ranks.

Returning to the old inn, the party found the homunculus and the charred reminders of its creation, as well as two spell books which served as the base for the warding circle that kept the homunculus trapped. It pleaded with the party for its freedom, and Lu chose to grant it, inadvertently becoming bonded with the magical being by blood. Everyone loved this.

That night, everyone had terrible dreams.

Session 5

The party traveled to the derelict village and, after descending into the well, found a hidden path that led into the temple.

There they found Surafel, a knight made of stone who said that he served The Regent-in-Sapphire, a figure out of myth and legend.

It goes like this:

Long ago, the Regent united the ninety isles of the archipelago and sailed north with a great force to aid in the battle against The Frost Shepherds. Between the Harp, the Anurans, and the Humans the reign of winter finally came to an end, and a new age took root.

The legend also states that the Regent was in possession of a great jewel, a sapphire of such a hue that no other blue compared. It contained the memory of some ancient being which existed before our time, and was unlike anything known today. The temple was constructed to honor this being, and it was believed that upon the completion of certain ritualistic carvings the being might be inspired to return to this world.

Surafel asked that the party investigate further into the temple to find his former compatriots, who likely had been driven to madness after a some arcane event disturbed the local lattice of magic in this region (likely the creation of Greg).

Within the temple the party found evidence of the soldiers, but not the soldiers themselves. It wasn’t until the door to the inner sanctum was discovered that 3 such soldiers made their presence know , the spells constituting their personalities so degraded that they could not be reasoned with, and so were destroyed.

Session 6

Within the presence chamber is an odd thing: a community of nearly 200 stone people in miniature. The first ones were pieces of a board game that the Regent played against visitors. It also was some sort of divinatory aid.

The stone folk had a problem: the spell book which gave them life was winding down, and they lacked the capacity to fashion a new one for themselves. Enter: Crow of Cabra, a traveler hunting for spellbooks. He was able to help craft a new book and performed a ritual which would prolong the life of the stone people much longer than that of anyone else in the room—save for Greg, who he still does not know about.

What’s next?

Crow provided some rumors for the party to follow up on.

  • The scholars of the Dusk Road Caravan, to the far south, are looking for rare books, and will pay a good price for anything they don’t already have, and an ok price for things they do. Also looking to contract workers for some job nearby.

  • The people of the Flotilla are looking for someone to assist with a vermin problem in The Echoing Hills.

  • Over in the fungal forests, east of here, they are soon preparing for a large metal harvest, and the lottery is open for small lots for personal use.

  • There have been fewer animals to hunt in the grasslands; strange wolves stalk the pampas at dusk, their coats dark red their manes streaked with white.

  • He passed by a woman on the road looking for someone who would help her avenge her brother.
